OPEN SESSIONS FOR BABIES
Are you curious about your baby’s movement?
Do you have questions about how to support them as they learn something new?
Do you want to know what they might do next?
Do you want to learn ways to pick them up and hold them, and set them down?
Are you looking for ideas about how to play with your baby?
WEEKEND WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS
These workshops are opportunities to study in-person online with Amy.
PAST WORKSHOPS
2023 WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
The Space Between: Mesoderm, Connective Tissues and Relationship
If we attend to relationships in our body – between structures, between systems, between tissues – we might have a different experience than if we attend to the ‘things’ being connected. Connective tissue itself plays a relational role in our body: it connects structures together, and it also creates and defines spaces and cavities.
In this workshop we will explore the embryological origins of connective tissue in mesoderm, and how the process of creating and defining both spaces and relationships offers possibilities for different experiences of our selves, our movements and our choices.
This workshop will include informational sessions on embryology, somatizations and invitations to explore in movement. No previous experience with Body-Mind Centering® or embryology is required.
The cost is 150 Euros (approximately $170) + PayPal fee.
February 4 & 5, 2023, 9 am-1:30 pm Eastern Time

Yoga Anatomy & Embodied Asana: An Introductory Weekend
Yoga Now is honored to have Amy Matthews join us again this year via zoom for her weekend training in Yoga Anatomy and Embodied Asana.
This is an introduction to embodied anatomy for yoga teachers, looking specifically at the skeletal system as a foundation for exploring movement patterns and habits.
January 20-22, 2023
Cost: $125

2022 WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
Dynamic Alignment and the NeuroEndocrine System
Communication is an essential part of being responsive and adaptive within ourselves and in relationship to the environment. The NeuroEndocrine System plays an essential role in communicating between cells and tissues within your body, and in communicating and interacting with the environment around you.
In this workshop we will look at how the cells of the Nervous System and Endocrine System create, facilitate, and modulate communication, and how they support responsiveness and adaptability as a foundation for dynamic alignment and relatedness.
This workshop will involve lecture, discussion and movement explorations – no previous experience is required. It will be taught in English and translated into Italian.
The cost is 150 Euros (approximately $170) + PayPal fee.
April 2 & 3, 2022, 9 am-1:30 pm Eastern Time

2019 WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
Embodied Bones
March 16 & 17, 2019, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
Are you interested in a in-depth understanding of fundamental principles of movement?
Do you want to have more ways to research and explore the beautifully complex relationships in our human bodies?
Would you like to expand your understanding of anatomy and kinesiology?
Do you want to explore an approach to alignment that is about dynamic relationships (rather than rules about position and shape)?
Here is an opportunity to study embodied anatomy and kinesiology in-person with Amy in New York City, where she’s taught for 20 years.
In these two weekend workshops we will explore the structure and movement of our bones, joints and muscles from an experiential perspective: using Body-Mind Centering principles of touch, drawing, movement experiences and discussion, we’ll dive into your individual experience of your body’s movement choices.
If you are brand new to studying anatomy, these workshop can orient you to the basic ideas that you can use as a starting place. And if you already have a lot of experience, these workshops will offer a shift in perspective that might open new explorations.
Any level of movement ability is welcome, and no previous experience is necessary.

Teaching Skills:
Observation, Expectation & Interpretation
September 14 & 15, 1:30-4:30 pm
Becoming skillful at observation requires a willingness to acknowledge our own habits, expectations and preferences. Once we have recognized our own habits of perception, we can begin to practice seeing from different perspectives – and explore meeting people where they are.

Feet are Fundamental:
Spirals and Diaphragms
October 19, 9 am – 5:30 pm
The bones and ligaments of our feet form a spiral that offers a dynamic pathway for weight and force between our body and the earth. With the support of our muscles the feet can adapt and respond to all kinds of surfaces, and create movements that travel through our whole body.
This workshop is for anyone with questions about balance and grounding, and anyone interested in learning more about their feet. No previous experience with anatomy is necessary.

THE EMBRYOLOGY OF COMMUNICATION:
Cells, Blood and Fluid Movements
December 14-15, 9 am – 5:30 pm
In the first few weeks of our embryological development in utero, there is an amazing amount of communication and coordination among our cells and fluids. This complex communication and growth starts to create our basic body plan and the beginnings of our body systems . . . before we have a nervous system.
In this two-day workshop we will explore the embryological origins of our body’s communication systems from a Body-Mind Centering perspective, starting with cellular communication. We’ll look at blood and the circulatory system as one of our first body-wide systems for communication and movement, and then the beginnings of the nervous system.
No previous experience with embryology or anatomy is necessary.
