BODY-MIND CENTERING® LICENSED PROGRAMS

INFANT DEVELOPMENTAL MOVEMENT EDUCATOR PROGRAM

The Infant Developmental Movement Educator program is a child-centered and relationship-centered approach to observing and facilitating infants, and educating parents and caregivers about touch, movement and handling in the first year of life.

In this training, participants will learn:

  • the layering of movement patterns that leads to typical ‘developmental milestones’
  • how to observe infants and see ‘normal movement pattern’ development
  • how to hold and handle infants, to support their movement experiences
  • how to identify ways to support infants who might be having movement difficulties
  • how to support parents and caregivers in learning new movement patterns with their infants

The IDME curriculum has two parts:

  1. Four core developmental movement courses (which are also part of the SME Program):
  • Senses & Perception 1
  • Basic Neurocellular Patterns
  • Primitive Reflexes, Righting Reactions and Equilibrium Responses (RRR)
  • Ontogenetic Development
  1. Courses on the application of the developmental courses specifically to working with infants:
  • IDME 1A & 1B
  • IDME 2A & 2B

SOMATIC MOVEMENT EDUCATOR PROGRAM

Body-Mind Centering® is a somatic practice that explores embodied anatomy and developmental movement in the context of experiential learning, created by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen more than 45 years ago.

Sensory and moving experiences weave through the study and inquiry, guiding participants into the transformative process of embodiment. The subject of this study is our selves, expressed as body systems and the progression of development movement. Through movement, partnering, touch and being touched, sound, vibration, verbal dialogue, and somatic imagery, we find our unique way to live more fully in our individual anatomy and physiology. This inner journey leads to outer expression as we learn to access the potential of our articulate bodies.

Movement skills, observation skills, hands-on techniques and somatic education principles are explored and expanded making this work appropriate for both personal and professional development. The SME material has immediate applications to movement based disciplines-such as dance, yoga, sports, martial arts-and to other therapeutic modalities such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, bodywork and massage.

This 500+ hour program is the first level of certification in Body-Mind Centering, and can be completed in three years. All course work including homework assignments must be completed to receive certification. All SME courses can be taken individually or in combination for personal growth or professional enrichment, except for Professional Issues 1 and Competency 1.

BMC & YOGA IMMERSION SERIES: FOUNDATIONS IN EMBODIED ANATOMY

EMBODIYOGA
Program Director: Lisa Clark
Faculty: Lisa Clark & Amy Matthews

at Dallas Yoga Center, Dallas, TX

BMC & Yoga: Foundations in Embodied Anatomy (FEA) is a deep, internal study of the body. Each module explores the practice of yoga through key principles of each of the body systems, and the direct experience of the tissues and cells. Foundations in Embodied Anatomy opens a door to the transformative aspects of yoga and takes asanas from an external approach into the subtleties of yoga practice.

FEA offers opportunities to:
• Reveal new aspects of the postures from the perspective of different body systems
• Experience greater depth, ease and flow of movement in forming traditional yoga asanas
• Develop a yoga practice based on personal needs and abilities
• Explore sequential relationships between postures
• Observe and analyze the movement of others using this subtle and dynamic perspective
• Illuminate new aspects of yoga

There are six modules in the FEA immersion series. This series offers an in-depth opportunity to explore relationships between fundamental principles of Body-Mind Centering® and those of yoga. The requirement for entry into these modules is a personal movement practice and a basic familiarity with yoga asana. No prior experience with Body-Mind Centering® is necessary.

These modules can be taken individually without commitment to the entire series.
